Bearish Trends and Supply-Demand Realities

A comprehensive analysis of the Vinyl Acetate market, detailing the impact of sluggish downstream consumption, weakening feedstock costs, and the current supply-demand imbalance.

Bearish Trends and Supply-Demand Realities

The market demand for Vinyl Acetate is projected to remain subdued throughout the early part of the month. Downstream industrial operating rates have experienced a slight decline compared to previous cycles, leading to a decelerated consumption rate of raw materials. Currently, market procurement is dominated by “hand-to-mouth” buying—small orders fulfilled only for essential needs—which fails to provide any substantial upward support for pricing. As buying interest remains thin and the trading atmosphere stagnates, sales pressure on both inventory holders and manufacturers is steadily intensifying. This bearish demand-side sentiment is expected to persist through the first half of the month.

Raw Material & Feedstock Perspectives

From a feedstock perspective, the cost environment offers little relief. The price of Acetic Acid, the primary precursor for Vinyl Acetate, continues to trend downward, while calcium carbide prices have fluctuated within a narrow range. Consequently, cost-side support for market benchmarks remains remarkably limited.

On the production front, Vinyl Acetate facilities have maintained relatively stable operations. Notably, only a few mainstream units in Jiangsu province have undergone maintenance shutdowns¹, while other regional plants have sustained previous operating rates. This has led to a moderate increase in overall spot availability, further tilting the scale toward oversupply.

Market Sentiment and Forecast

Market sentiment is currently defined by extreme caution, as negotiation benchmarks continue to soften. The prevailing stalemate—characterized by weak supply-demand dynamics—is likely to characterize the short-term outlook.
